Plastic is not chinchilla safe! Unfortunately, the Ferret Nation cage and Critter Nation cage are loaded with it.
As a Small Animal Guardian, it's up to you to prevent your chinchilla or other small animal from getting to that plastic.
The original plastic pans should be covered or replaced before introducing your chinchilla or another small animal.
Which option should you choose?
If this is for high ammonia-producing animals like rats or rabbits. Then definitely go for the powder coating option.
If it's for low-producing like chinchillas or hedgehogs, then galvanized will be just fine.
Galvanized is protected from rust but still does over a long period of time depending on the environment it's in. Typically we see a life of 3-7 years.
Powdercoated enhances that further.
Stainless will last forever :)
